Why the mighty oak?
Welcome to Mighty Oak Parenting. I worked on naming this blog for about a week. I struggled to find a name that represented what I wanted this blog to be and what I wanted people to get from reading it. I ended up with Mighty Oak Parenting because it aligned with what I believe a parent should be. The oak symbolizes strength, wisdom, family, strong roots, and being grounded. It stands strong and provides shade and protection. As I look at all the things that the oak symbolizes, I can't help but think "that is the type of parent I want to be."
As a psychotherapist, I feel it is critical to look at the individual and each circumstance as a unique situation. Writing for the masses changes this a bit so please feel free to take what works for you and leave what doesn't.
I am also a wife, mother, and a knowledge seeker . I am constantly working on my own growth as an individual. My wish is for everyone to be more mindful. Mindful about what we say and do, and how this affects ourselves and those around us.
I want parents to be mindful in their parenting so that there is more peace and less frustration (for both the parents and children). I want children to grow up to be emotionally intelligent, insightful, self-aware, kind, independent thinkers, and capable.
Join me on this journey of mindful parenting. Together we can become more like the oak: strong, grounded, wise, and consistent, providing shade and protection.
