What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Are you wondering which one is right for you?It can be confusing to know which may be best for you.
My coaching services are for parents looking for parenting strategies to address a variety of issues that we face as parents (a few examples are potty training, managing tantrums, sleep issues, discipline strategies, or parent-child relationship building). As your coach, I work with you to identify the behavior or situation that you want assistance with and we come up with a plan together. This plan will consist of a variety of tools for you to use as a parent to help address the challenge you are facing. My parenting coaching services are designed to be goal and action oriented. Coaching services are designed to provide you with information and tools to manage various parenting challenges. Coaching has an emphasis on action, not process. Coaching tends to be shorter term and focused on the present.
Therapy focuses more on what is happening with you. It may focus on managing stress and anxiety or even working through adjusting to your role as a parent. For others it is identifying why your kids push those buttons and why you can't stop yelling no matter how you hard you try. Therapy focuses on your thoughts and feelings and what is happening with you. It focuses more on process as well as past issues and patterns of thinking and behavior. Therapy focuses on experiences, emotions, thoughts, beliefs and ways of being in the world. In addition to processing thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences it can include skills training for more effective management of emotions or relationship issues.
